Sun Chemical, a fully owned subsidiary of DIC, presented on its piezochromic timers and RGB light emitting ink based displays at the “Future of Printing” lecture series offered by ESMA and held over two days at drupa.

PolyIC of Germany is a fully owned subsidiary of KURZ, a global hotstamp manufacturer. They have termed themselves “The Chip Printers” to indicate their goal of becoming a manufacturer of printed integrated circuits equivalent to existing silicon or IC chips. While this is a future goal, PolyIC displayed two of its printed electronics related products, their “PolyTC” transparent conductive film (TCF) and “PolyLogo” display which uses EC materials similar to Ynvisible.

Of the 28 companies displaying printed electronics, only a few exhibited concrete applications. One of the more interesting products was a printed display using electrochromics (EC) offered by Ynvisible of Portugal. EC materials are color reversing materials that change color when stimulated with electricity. According to the representative, the Ynivisble concept is one of combining these materials with standard printed materials, not limiting their approach to advanced printing techniques.
