
Enfucell’s fund raising presentation to international investors was awarded as the best presentation in the LOPE-C Investor Forum in Frankfurt, Germany on June 1, 2010. The judging panel consisted of investment and technology professionals and was chaired by Dr. David Fyfe, advisor of Sumitomo Chemicals and former CEO of Cambridge Display Technology.
The other members were Dr. Alexei Andreev, Managing Director & Executive VP of Harris & Harris Group Inc., USA, Andrew Hannah, President & CEO of Plextronics Inc., USA, Wolfgang Mildner, Chairman of LOPE-C Advisory Board and Managing Director of PolyIC, Germany, Dr. Thomas Skordas, European Commission, Belgium, and David Yormesor, European Investment Fund, Luxembourg.
According to the panel, the presentation given by Mr. Risto Huvila, COO of Enfucell, was strong in all the criteria:
1. Quality of presentation,
2. Closeness to commercialization,
3. Quality of business plan,
4.Technology quality,
5. Quality of market.
According to the OE-A/LOPE-C websites, Organic and Printed Electronics is a market that will be growing to a multibillion dollar industry within five years - namely due to the creation of new markets and by going beyond conventional electronics making use of principal advantages of organic electronics like flexibility, large-area, robustness, cost and integration possibilities.
The LOPE-C Investor Forum is organized and initiated by the OE-A in cooperation with the European Commission (DG INFSO) and the European Investment Fund (EIF) and it is the premier non-commercial and must-attend forum for investors and companies seeking investment in organic and printed electronics.
Earlier Enfucell’s SoftBattery® technology has been recognized as The Technology Pioneer 2007 by World Economic Forum, The Red Herring 100 Europe in 2007 and The Guardian European Cleantech100 in 2008. In addition, Dr. Xia-Chang Zhang, CTO of Enfucell was appointed as one of ten most influential Chinese in the world in 2007, and nominated as an honorary professor of the East China University of Science and Technology.
Enfucell Oy
With main focus on printed electronics, Enfucell Oy is a Vantaa, Finland based technology company with its roots in the Helsinki University of Technology, today known as the Aalto University School of Science and Technology. Enfucell has developed SoftBattery® a thin, flexible 1.5 & 3 volt environmentally friendly power source optimally utilized in disposable and short lifetime products. Potential SoftBattery® application include RFID (radio frequency identification, micro sensors, displays, OLED, functional packaging, cosmetic and pharmaceutical transdermal delivery systems etc.
Enfucell was founded in 2002 and employs ca. ten people, and having a presence in the United States and France. The company is owned by its founders, private investors, Vera Venture Ltd, a Finnish governmental venture fund, and Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Co., the largest investor in Finland with investment assets exceeding 29 billion Euros. Enfucell is also financially supported by Tekes, The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation. In total Enfucell has raised ca. 6 million Euros by June 2010.
At the moment Enfucell is working on raising 1-2 million € for further commercialization of SoftBattery.
